On Sweet Melancholy, the selections include compositions by English composers which focus around the German idea of Weltschmerz, or the weariness caused by the ills of the world. Dance settings and fantasies by Thomas Lupo, Henry Purcell, John Hingeston, William Byrd, and more are featured here. The Cellini Consort was founded by three gambists, Goals Eketorp, Brian Franklin, and Thomas Goetschel in 2012. Since then the ensemble has explored the music of the Renaissance and Baroque, filling each performance with their originality and freshness.
